FOIL STAMPED FLEXI ARTWORK GUIDELINES

Incomplete, incorrect, or illegible art files will result in production delays and possibly poor presentation of final product. Have your artwork designed by a professional graphic designer. Unless you’ve arrange it with your sales representative beforehand, we require that all graphic materials are to be received in a Pirates Press template. We have templates available for almost everything we manufacture. Visit our TEMPLATES page – if you are unsure which template to use, please contact your sales representative.

WHEN DESIGNING YOUR ART:
  • MINIMUM THICKNESS of any printed part including lines, dots, and fonts is .5mm.
  • MINIMUM LETTER SPACING is 2mm.
  • DO NOT do halftones or grayscale images.
  • AVOID large or non-centered images to prevent potential warping.
  • BE AWARE of your surface area. Too much surface area will not be allowed due to warping.
  • OUTLINE solid and shaded parts of your design.
  • AVOID fine detail, such as small type, or shapes with thin lines.
  • Fine or thin fonts, particularly those with Serifs or tapered lines do not produce good results.
  • We recommend sending a JPG of your art to your Pirate rep before submitting final artwork as a preliminary measure to avoid rejected artwork from the plant.
WHEN SUBMITTING FINAL ART:
  • ALL ARTWORK MUST BE SUBMITTED IN VECTOR FORMAT.
  • Use ONLY PIRATES PRESS TEMPLATES. Always keep the template on its own later. NEVER FLATTEN TEMPLATE to artwork.
  • EPS and PDF file formats EXTREMELY PREFERRED. PSD files are prone to problems and are RELUCTATLY ACCEPTED.
  • QXD and INDD files are NOT ACCEPTED. NO GIF or JPEG files.
  • ALL TEXT must be CONVERTED to OUTLINES (Illustrator, Quark, Indesign). ALL IMAGES must be EMBEDDED to OUTLINES (Illustrator, Quark, Indesign).
  • SAVE your files as SINGLE ARCHIVES (.zip or .sit) named only with your CATALOG NUMBER and the word “ART” (ex. PPR023_ART.zip).
  • ALL ART FILES should be UPLOADED from our WEB-BASED UPLOAD APPLICATION: piratespress.com/upload.

PICTURE FLEXI ARTWORK GUIDELINES

Picture flexis give you MUCH more flexibility of your artwork over standard foil stamped flexis. You can order them with a solid white base coat so the entire flexi is semi-opaque, partial white base coat (so some areas are transparent like a picture slide and some are semi-opaque), or no white base coat at all so they are transparent like a picture slide or an x-ray.

WHEN DESIGNING & SUBMITTING FINAL ART:
  • ALL ARTWORK MUST BE SUBMITTED IN 300 DPI VECTOR FORMAT.
  • PLEASE SPECIFY IF YOU WOULD LIKE A SOLID WHITE BASE COAT OR A partial WHITE BASE COAT.
  • IF YOU CHOOSE A partial WHITE BASE COAT, YOU MUST INCLUDE A SEPARATE LAYER IN BLACK.

Depending on your design, a picture flexi with 2 sides of art (even with a white layer between them) may not be totally opaque. Artwork from the opposite side may be visible to some degree on the final product, like in the picture above. Your design is the biggest factor here, but Pirates also has the ability to add extra white (or even metallic silver) base coat layers to make it more opaque, at an additional cost. Ask your sales rep for more info.

Please make sure that your order forms are filled out properly, making sure the artwork you are submitting matches your order form and the sales order (or estimate) that you have received from your sales representative. If it doesn’t, make sure it gets adjusted immediately to avoid delays in production.

Check out the Pirates Press Records FLEXI DISCOGRAPHY for tons of great examples of how flexis can be designed to help promote other releases, or even to serve as a release in and of itself!
